Internal Objects; Embodied Subjects

Solo Exhibition
Association for Visual Arts, Cape Town, South Africa
18 June – 6 July 2007

Internal Objects; Embodied Subjects investigates the relationships between art, psychoanalysis and childhood experience. Common to them all is a concern with the ways in which subjectivity is shaped, articulated and interpreted, particularly those aspects that are not communicable in words or that remain just outside consciousness.

The plasticity of paint is contemplated as a site of possibility where the ‘internal objects’ of infantile bodily experience – those subtle templates informing the feeling, thinking and relating of our adult lives – may be re-embodied and re-inscribed.
